Kieran Trippier-4

The more I watch him play, the more convinced I become that he just isn’t good enough to be a key member of the Tottenham squad. At this point, I’d much rather see Kyle Walker-Peters be given the opportunity to learn on the job.

This should have been a match where Trippier could have played well. Spurs enjoyed plenty of the ball and he, theoretically, had opportunities to cross the ball into Fernando Llorente. Unfortunately, he did absolutely nothing with the ball out on the right flank.

At this point in the season it’s clear that Trippier simply isn’t capable of running by a defender with the ball at his feet. That makes him too predictable to trouble opponents. Trippier can play better football than this, but it still won’t be enough to help Spurs achieve their goals.

Ben Davies-6

The worst news of the day for Tottenham is that Danny Rose may be set for another long spell on the sidelines due to a recurrence of his knee injury. That means Davies will need to be ready to play a strong run of matches for Pochettino.

Davies wasn’t great in this match, but he did enough to keep Swansea at bay. Curiously, his offensive forays tend to see him cutting into the middle of the pitch. That’s an odd choice for a player so dependent on his left foot, but it did cause Swansea a few problems. He’ll need to up his game if he’s going to fill Rose’s shoes for an extended period of time. The Welshman’s done it once, now he may be forced to do it again.
