The rumor mill has been buzzing in recent weeks around Real Madrid.  With Los Blancos far beneath their general level it appears that no player in the team is safe not even club record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

It has been rumored on many occasions that Real Madrid are trying to move on from Cristiano Ronaldo.

He should move on from Madrid and go to Italy.

The Italian league is experiencing something of a resurgence and the teams are now no longer as financially strapped as they once were.  With Juventus perennially challenging for the Champions League and both Inter and AC Milan ripe with foreign investment Serie A is on the verge of a golden period.

The style of play in Serie A is more technical and inclusive of players who are beginning to lose their pace.  While Ronaldo remains perhaps the most athletic player in world football it would be only a blind person who suggested he hasn’t lost any of his usual class.  Ronaldo is still one of the top 5 footballers in the world there’s no doubt about that.

He shouldn’t however continue to allow himself to be so publicly disrespected by a club that he is such a historic figure at.  It’s true Madrid will probably need to move on from Ronaldo but the public back and forth and the dialogue about contracts and who’s to blame for the current season simply hurts both parties.

More from Real Madrid

Real Madrid know that Ronaldo’s release clause is too high but they would do well for themselves to accept an honest sum of around 65-90 million euros for the player.  They purchased him for 94 million euros and would recoup the majority of that while shedding his salary.

Ronaldo could then continue his career in a league built to his technical strengths that also allowed him to compete for the Champions League and more titles.

Ronaldo could sign a 5 year deal with any of the big three in Italy and it would be a wonderful Indian summer for his career.  In years past the challenge among the greats was to win a title and a Champions League in each of the big three leagues.  England, Spain and Italy.  If Ronaldo wants to cement his legacy and try to finally establish himself as better than Lionel Messi this could be an interesting method in which to do it.

He has already proven himself in England where he won numerous titles and a Champions League with United.  He then topped even those incredible heights during his time in Madrid.  A big contract in Italy where he would be the star of the show and able to pursue his other interests such as fashion could be a perfect move for the Portuguese superstar.
