Chelsea boss slams club’s transfer strategy
Antonio Conte has once again slammed his club’s transfer policy. It does appear to be becoming something of a habit for the Italian manager.
Antonio Conte recently slammed Chelsea’s transfer policy and people are making a bigger deal out of it than is entirely necessary. If the direct quotes of what he said in his press conference are actually examined Conte is once again being misrepresented as more of a fire-brand manager than he truly is.
Nothing in this link is unfair of Conte to have said as he’s being 100% right in his statements. He doesn’t say that this only happened at Chelsea. In his career as a manager Conte has managed a litany of different side but the ones with the most actual weight in his career are of course Siena, Juventus and Chelsea.
His comments about the austerity programs that he has endured during his career are 100% correct and frankly very perceptive of him as a coach. Siena were by no means a rich club and their position as serial promotion and relegation favorites made them unfavorable in terms of investment.
The situation was similar and also different for Conte at Juventus. It is one of the reasons that Conte is so highly regarded as a coach. When Antonio Conte arrived at Juventus the club were in the midst of the most historically poor part of their history. They had just been promoted for a couple of seasons and were having trouble establishing themselves as an economic powerhouse again. The fact that they are able to spend money now is in many ways due to the foundation Conte left at the club when he departed for the Italian national team.

Juventus when he arrived were spending as little money as possible as they were outside the Champions League places and had just returned from their time in the lower divisions due to the Calciopoli scandal. They were in the definition of an austerity program.
Chelsea has been the same way. For many Chelsea are still associated with the free spending ways of Abramovich’s arrival in the early 2000’s. Those times have changed and not unexpectedly. Abramovich always said that he would use his personal fortune to catapult the club to the next level but that at some point the club would need to be self-sufficient.
Chelsea are now the best example of economic stability in the Premier League. The club has turned a profit several times in recent years and spends well within their means while competing for trophies unlike other similarly fiscally responsible clubs like Arsenal.
Sure there is a measure of jealousy in Conte’s voice. He would love to spend money the way Guardiola and Mourinho do but those are different men at different clubs. Conte was 100% correct in saying that he has managed at clubs in the midst of austerity programs because he has been at those clubs. That is why for what it’s worth I consider him the best manager of the three. He has achieved more with less than many of his counterparts.
