Lucas Moura has revealed that Manchester United are the team that he wants to join next.

According to reports, Lucas Moura wants to join the Red Devils at the end of the season. His game time has been limited with the arrivals of superstars Kylian Mbappé and Neymar in the summer. They already had significant depth in the forward areas prior to this so it’s natural that some players want to leave in order to play more.

This is also beneficial for Paris Saint-Germain because they need to recoup some of the transfer fees they spent in the summer in order to help balance the books. It’s likely that multiple players will join him in leaving the Parisian club at the end of the season

Moura joined the club for £38 million in January 2013 from São Paulo; this made him the club’s most expensive signing at that point. His time at the club has been highly successful with four league titles and a total of 16 titles. He has played in 228 games for the club with a total of 45 goals. This season, however, he has been limited to eighty minutes in all competitions.

The Brazilian has made it clear that he wants to dictate his next transfer move by announcing his desired club. He is likely to cost around £40 million because even though he is talented and only 25-years-old, PSG need to appease Financial Fair Play rules quickly with selling players being the easiest manner of achieving that.

More from Manchester United

La Liga sides Real Betis and Malaga have expressed an interest in signing him. However, it’s clear that he only intends to join a top European side with England being the desired country. Manchester United were after him when he initially joined PSG, which is potentially part of the reason why he specifically mentioned them as the next club he wants to join.

Where would he fit in?

Manchester United do have a hole in the squad at the right-winger position, so buying Moura would improve the team especially considering they can get him at a bargain price. It’s a move that benefits all the parties involved: Moura gets more game time, PSG receive some much-needed funds and United get a solution for a problem area in the squad.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are better suited to playing on the left. Jesse Lingard has shown that he thrives playing behind the striker. Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are playmakers, so playing on the right limits them. Anthony Young and Antonio Valencia are better as full-backs or wing-backs. Therefore, United lack a proper first-team option for the right-wing position.

On paper this move looks likely to happen in the summer, but football is rarely that predictable. Other factors could interfere and circumstances could change in the summer, but this would be a smart move if it happens.
