Marc Guehi

Chelsea have a particularly talented group of young players and that was evidenced in England’s Under-17 World Cup winning team having so many of Chelsea’s prospects in the squad. Chelsea should take a certain higher level amount of pride in the fact that the captain and leader of that team was none other than Chelsea’s Marc Guehi.

Marc Guehi is already a young titan of a defender.  With strong legs and broad shoulders he’s built something like Walter Samuel the old Roma and Inter Milan defender.  Guehi has obviously grown up in the post-Guardiola era and thus is a defender who is just as good with his feet as he is with his head and shoulders.  He’s an unbelievably important player for Chelsea and England.

The naturally right footed player was born in the Ivory Coast but has chosen to represent England for many youth levels now.  The most obvious current comparison for Guehi is Eric Bailly but Guehi is built-in a more naturally strong way. The only issue with Guehi is his height.  At 17 he still has room to grow but at a current height of 1.82m Guehi needs to add at least 5 to 7cm to be a fully fledged professional center half.

If Guehi can tie down his role as a central defender or particularly on the right side of a defensive three while away on loan he could prove to be one of the best defenders in Europe let alone England.
