Step Three: Sign another young Championship talent

If Tottenham are going to make a January signing, it’s very likely it will be a promising young player from the Championship. While I’d love for it to be Sessegnon, other targets are more probable.

Someone like James Maddison or Andre Green would fit the bill. Neither player is ready to make an immediate impact at the Premier League level. Both players could easily blow up into that sort of player in the next six to 18 months.

Tottenham’s budget will likely only allow Pochettino to add one such talent. He’ll rely on the Spurs’ scouting department to select the best option. Ideally, it will be a young striker who can slot in behind Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente.

It could easily be a midfielder though. Spurs can never have enough options in the middle of the pitch. Pochettino’s willingness to play multiple formations throughout the season also allows for a diverse group of midfielders.

The important thing here is for Spurs to add more talent to their young pipeline. The specific identity and position of the ideal young player is definitely open to debate.
