Losing Olivier Giroud to Chelsea

This is where the controversy surrounding Arsenal’s January transfer window comes into play. Yes, the Gunners did strengthen their squad, however they also fixed some of their league rival’s problems.

Chelsea were in dire need of attacking options, with Alvaro Morata suffering a run of terrible form at the moment. Michy Batshuayi was also loaned out to Borussia Dortmund, in order to complete the transfer trident.

Oliver Giroud has been a loyal servant to Arsenal over the years, which is why many Arsenal fans were upset to see him leave. However, if Arsenal’s January transfer window were to be deemed successful, it was something that just needed to happen.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Olivier Giroud needed to get some game-time under his belt, and Arsenal couldn’t promise him that.

Overall, I would rate Arsenal’s January transfer window an 8/10. They improved their attack dramatically, got rid of some players that were of no use to them, and also gave some yungsters the chance to get some minutes in the lower leagues.

The one downside to Arsenal’s January transfer window was they failed to equip in the positions they needed to, which is in the defensive zone.
