Left Back-Danny Rose

A lot of attention will be paid to Pochettino’s fullback choices in this match. Specifically, Spurs fans will naturally assume that whoever he chooses to start against Newport County won’t be picked to feature against Arsenal.

I believe Pochettino’s choices will have more to do with fitness than matchups. That’s why Rose gets the starting nod on the left side. He needs to get a full 90 minutes under his belt. In a perfect world he’d be fully fit heading into the North London Derby, but that isn’t reality. Pochettino will have to settle for getting a solid performance for him against Newport.

Right Back-Serge Aurier

Aurier finds himself in similar circumstances to Rose. His skill set is a better matchup against Arsenal than Kieran Trippier, but his fitness won’t allow Pochettino to trust him against the Gunners.

As such, he’ll get an opportunity to flex his attacking muscles against Newport. Look for him to get forward early and often in tandem with Sissoko down the right wing. It shouldn’t surprise anyone if he finds a way to notch an assist in this one.
