Leicester City are eyeing Thorgan Hazard as a potential Riyad Mahrez replacement

Thorgan Hazard is most commonly known for being Eden Hazard’s brother, however he has his own quality, and Leicester City have recognised that.

According to TEAMtalk, Leicester are growing increasingly unhappy with forward Riyad Mahrez. It seemed certain that the Algerian would solidify a transfer to Manchester City in January, however the Foxes were able to keep him, but at what cost?

The Leicester City forward, who helped them clinch the title in memorable fashion, has been pushing for a move away from the King Power stadium. The Leicester board held firm on their stance that they won’t let the Algerian go unless a huge sum of cash was offered.

Thorgan Hazard has experience in England, playing for none other than Chelsea. However, his time with the blues was nothing short of lacklustre. He became a victim of Chelsea’s infamous loan system, before securing a permanent move to Borussia Monchengladbach.

It hasn’t put him off a move back to England though, as TEAMtalk have reported that he’s open to moving back and playing in the Premier League.

Let’s compare

Thorgan Hazard and Riyad Mahrez both have similarities in their styles of play, however overall they are completely different.

Both players are versatile, with Thorgan Hazard just edging that department. He can essentially play anywhere across a front three block, but this season he has been best utilised when playing out on the left flank, which will come as a surprise to many Leicester fans, given he will replace Riyad Mahrez, who mainly applies his trade out on the right.

Leicester’s Algerian is slightly older than his potential replacement. While Mahrez is entering what should be the prime stages of his career, Hazard still has a few years to adapt before that happens.

Both players enjoy cutting inside, however with Thorgan Hazard sometimes applying his trade in a striker position, you would favour him to get a goal in this scenario.

Thorgan Hazard would be an excellent acquisition for Claude Puel. There’s no denying that Riyad Mahrez will be deeply missed, but refraining him from his dream move will be much more costly to the Foxes than letting him go.
