The Polish striker sees a potential opportunity developing for him in the Spanish capital this summer.
According to Marca, Lewandowski has used his agent to initiate an approach with the club. The European and Spanish champions are in crisis as they only have a realistic chance of winning one major title this season. This means that a major squad overhaul is highly likely in the summer with a top striker being a priority. Los Blancos have been linked with multiple strikers because of this such as Harry Kane and Mauro Icardi as well as Lewandowski.
The Polish striker has expressed his admiration for Real Madrid before. However, his and Real’s situation has changed over the years. This is his fourth season with the club and he still hasn’t won a Champions League title. For such a talented player, winning this competition will be a priority especially considering the amount of league titles he has won. Real also clearly need a striker seen as Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence on games is waning and Karim Benzema isn’t able to pick up the slack.
One major issue with Lewandowski is his age. There is no doubting his talent, but he is 29-years-old so he hasn’t got long left at his peak. Alternative options such as Kane and Icardi would both be more suitable long-term options. However, this means that the Bayern striker would be cheaper. Although the fee would be around £100 million based on his CIES valuation.
Bayern would be unwilling to let him go easily because he is the focal point of their attack. He also has a contract with them that stretches until 2021. The move would be highly dependent on whether Bayern could find a suitable replacement. They have Thomas Müller and Sandro Wagner, but neither of these have the goalscoring consistency. Based on their preference for Bundesliga players, Timo Werner is the obvious candidate.

Would he fit in at Real?
Zinedine Zidane is highly unlikely to be the manager next season. Therefore, Madrid’s style is dependent on the manager that they bring in. However, Lewandowski would fit in perfectly in the current system or something similar. Real’s current issue is converting chances rather than creating them. They have a well-balanced midfield and Isco is a talented playmaker. Wide options aren’t an issue either with Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio all providing a direct threat. Although one of Bale and Ronaldo is likely to leave in the summer along with Benzema.
Lewandowski is an intelligent player which enables him to find space in the final third with his movement. This is similar to what Ronaldo provides currently because he doesn’t have the rapid acceleration to beat players anymore. The Polish striker is also adept at linking up with teammates which would work well with Isco who thrives off that.

Being able to focus solely on goalscoring would suit Lewandowski. He has scored over 40 goals in both of the last two seasons. His consistency is supported by the fact that he has scored a minimum of 25 goals in the past seven seasons including the current one. Therefore, signing him would guarantee plenty of goals as well as bringing his dream to life.
