Alexis Sanchez: United biggest club in England
New Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez speaks about his appetite for success and how it can be fulfilled there. He believes United are the most significant club in England regardless of Manchester City’s form
The Chilean international is currently the highest paid player in England with a reported £350,000 weekly wage. Although Alexis Sanchez says money is not his main motivation, that is trophies. He is yet to win the Champions League, Premier League or League Cup. He believes United can change this.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom under Wenger. Sanchez did win the FA Cup twice at Arsenal of course. Sanchez’s form at United has drawn mainly positive reviews. On paper it’s decent. One assist (with more created), one goal and two victories from three games, despite losing to Spurs.
It seems the 29-year-old has made two great decisions in his pursuit of silverware. Firstly joining Manchester United, a club with a winning mentality. Also choosing to play under manager Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho has been successful at every team he has been involved with. The Portuguese boss has a stunning eight elite-league titles under his belt. While United have finished top of the Premier League a record 13 times.
Which club is the biggest in England?
Sanchez candidly gave his opinion to Thierry Henry during a Sky Sports interview,
"“I think that Manchester United, since I was young – and I’m not just saying this because I’m here, I’m an honest guy and I never lie – I think it’s the biggest club in England.”"
Stability and continued success are prevalent at Old Trafford. United are the most decorated team during the Premier League era and in historical terms. Winning the Europa last season ensured overtaking adversaries Liverpool, becoming the most victorious English outfit ever.
In addition they are also the world’s richest football team, in-front of Real Madrid. Sanchez himself helped there by setting a new-record for shirt sales. The star forward even beat rival Neymar in those stakes. The Red Devils only bestow their fabled number seven shirt on to special players.
It is likely Sanchez will achieve his desire, if not this season then the next. It will most probably be his final chance at a top-club. Although at prime age for a footballer, that fine margin soon reaches twilight of career.
United play Sevilla in the Champions League and Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Yet it seems Manchester City have the league sewn-up for this campaign at least.
If the former-Barcelona man can avoid trouble like his recent legal trial, the footballing world is his oyster.
