What’s next?

Both players seem to adhere to their manager’s philosophy of forgiveness. Puel has said they need Mahrez and everyone makes mistakes. He returned for the match against Man City and showed glimpses of his undeniable class as a substitute at 3-1 down. Is he good enough to play for a top-six side? Yes.

A statement was given to Leicester Mercury from Mahrez. I read through incredulous eyes as the Algerian reveals unconvincingly that the owners and manager were aware of his sabbatical.

This fact seems particularly peculiar as Puel stated at the Thursday press-conference that his absentee player was not available for selection against Manchester City.

Whatever the true circumstances, Mahrez will likely impress again final 11 league matches and the FA Cup. Again putting himself firmly available to prospective ‘larger’ suitors, regardless of his remaining two-year-contract.

It’s best now for both parties if Mahrez can concentrate on Foxes success and earn a dream move like Philippe Coutinho and ample compensation for his exhausted bosses and family.
