Leicester City boss speaks highly of Riyad Mahrez

Claude Puel believes Riyad Mahrez is performing better than ever before.

Cast your minds back to last month, in the action-packed transfer window. One of the huge storied, coming later on, was Riyad Mahrez requesting a transfer away from the King Power stadium.

As we all know, the Foxes declined the request and Riyad Mahrez was forced to stay, at least for another few months. This could easily have ruined the Algerian’s time in Leicester, however Claude Puel believes it’s had a positive impact.

“Yeah, I think (Mahrez is performing) better. He enjoys playing and training with his teammates.” – Claude Puel (via Sky Sports)

The Frenchman has always been a man of very few words, and it’s been hard to tell whether or not he’s telling the truth. However, this will come as good news to Leicester City fans.

Riyad Mahrez doesn’t seem like the kind of player to throw tantrums if things don’t go his way. That said, he did refuse to train for a week or two, but he seemed more than happy to return to training in preparation for the match against Manchester City.

Claude Puel then went on to talk about Leicester City’s upcoming game against Sheffield United, saying that a strong team is expected to be fielded.

If Riyad Mahrez is to earn his move any time soon, he must do what he does best, which is playing his football to the best of his ability. His lack of comfort off the pitch hasn’t had much of an impact on the pitch, with the Algerian contributing to sixteen goals for Leicester City.

The Algerian was a key figurehead to Leicester’s historic season, where they put aside all the odds and won the Premier League, surviving relegation just the season before.

Do you think Riyad Mahrez will perform to the best of his abilities for the rest of the season?
