Right back-Kieran Trippier

There’s some school of thought that believes Kyle Walker-Peters might get the nod here instead. Instead, I think Pochettino will be looking to placate Trippier by giving him the start at Rochdale. He was disappointed not to get the nod at Juventus and will be anxious to put in a good shift.

Trippier’s crossing talents might come in handy against what figures to be a very conservative Rochdale defense. Even without a true target man like Kane to aim at, Trippier can still unlock the Spurs attack with a clever ball into the box. Look for the Englishman to fire a number of speculative balls into the box tomorrow for Pochettino.

Left back-Danny Rose

Unlike Trippier, Rose needs to play the full 90 minutes in this one to continue to build his match fitness. He still believes he is Tottenham’s best left back, but Pochettino clearly trusts Ben Davies more at the moment.

As such, the Welshman will get the match off while Rose will be expected to play at full tilt. It isn’t the glamour tie of Rose’s dreams, but it’s an important match for him. If he shows well, it’s very possible he could force his way back into a regular rotation with Davies for the rest of the campaign. Fail to play well, and he could really struggle for game time down the stretch.
