Tottenham player ratings at Rochdale: Nightmares for Toby and Winks
Danny Rose-6
The Englishman grew into the match as it progressed, but it’s hard to say he played really well. At least he can point to an improved second half as a sign that he’s getting closer to full fitness.
It almost seems like Rose needs to get angry to play with the edge required to maximize his talent. Fortunately for Spurs, the Rochdale players got him going with several hard challenges in the second half. That’s when Rose started to look like his old self. He needs to find a way to get himself going if he wants to supplant Ben Davies in Pochettino’s starting XI.
Kieran Trippier-6
Trippier’s outing was almost the complete opposite of Rose’s. He started out the match playing pretty well, but was partially at fault for Rochdale’s opening goal. The more hotly contested the match became, the more Trippier seemed to drift out of the match.
Add it all up and he didn’t do anything to put real pressure on Serge Aurier. He is a threat when he has time and space on the ball, but his lack of athleticism continues to limit his effectiveness. Trippier has to play a near perfect mental match to stand out in a positive way for Spurs.
