Tottenham’s defense was stellar against Palace

Mauricio Pochettino likely wanted to see more fireworks from his Tottenham attack at Crystal Palace yesterday, but the Spurs gaffer had to be pleased with his squad’s defensive effort. Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier thoroughly dominated the Eagles attack from start to finish.

In the end, only Harry Kane’s scruffy goal in the 88th minute allowed Tottenham to leave Selhurst Park with all three points. Failing to score in a match where they enjoyed so much possession would have been quite a disappointment for Spurs. In the end, Kane bailed out his teammates and launched his club into the top four once again.

On the other end of the pitch, the Palace attack rarely troubled Hugo Lloris. Tottenham’s French captain had a very boring afternoon. Christian Benteke did his best to lean on Pochettino’s unusual central defensive pairing, but the Belgian came up empty.

As you might expect, the defensive player ratings are going to be far superior to the offensive marks in this one. Tottenham’s attackers should have put this match out of reach in the first half. Instead, the match was tense till the very end. Read on discover which Spurs stars should be feeling good about their outing against the Eagles.
