Jan Vertonghen-8
I have to admit that I was concerned about the idea of Juan Foyth starting this match. Fortunately, Vertonghen was fit enough to play and didn’t look as if he missed a beat.
He wasn’t quite as adventurous with the ball as normal, but his distribution from the back was flawless. Truthfully, I enjoyed watching him play a little more conservative match than normal. He kept things simple defensively and played a big part in helping Lloris earn a clean sheet.
Davinson Sanchez-8
Sanchez doesn’t play centre back in the same manner as Toby Alderweireld, but it’s hard to argue that he isn’t just as effective. His combination of size and speed flummoxed the Huddersfield attack all match long.
Time and time again he snuffed out potential counter attacks by using his body to shield attackers from the ball. When his reading of the game catches up with his outstanding physical gifts, he could become one of the best centre backs on Earth. This was another excellent showing for the talented Colombian.
