Davinson Sanchez-7.5

Sanchez struggled a bit when he was isolated one on one against Callum Wilson, but there’s no shame in that. Overall, the talented Colombian was excellent for Pochettino once again.

You really have to marvel at the defender’s combination of size and speed. In particular, his pace allows him to cover up for his teammates over and over again. It wasn’t enough to keep Stanislas from breaking free early in the match, but he bailed out his defensive midfield on several key occasions. Sanchez continues to play better and better football which should terrify Premier League attackers all across England.

Jan Vertonghen-7

The Belgian wasn’t quite as influential as his Colombian partner, but he was quietly effective most of the match. Vertonghen does make defending look a bit awkward at times, but he gets the job done.

He also has the ability to carry the ball forward which gives his attack a real boost. Vertonghen’s ability to dribble past the first line of defense created momentum for the Spurs attack several times in the second half. It’s an underrated part of the classy defender’s game.
