Serge Aurier-7.5

It’s time to bestow a nickname on the enigmatic right back. I’m tempted to call him the roller coaster. I’ve never seen a defender capable of such moments of idiocy and brilliance all wrapped up into one match.

Against the Cherries, he was more good than bad. Yes, he suffered another foul throw-in, but his defending was excellent for the most part. He really kept the Bournemouth wide men at bay.

Offensively, he tallied a goal and an assist. It’s hard to argue with that sort of production from your right back. Yes, he hit some horrible crosses, but you’d take those results every match. Aurier may continue to frustrate Spurs fans for years, but his overall contributions tend to skew positively for Pochettino.

Danny Rose-6.5

I keep waiting for the Danny Rose of old to show up again. Unfortunately, I continue to be disappointed by the left back’s performances for Spurs.

Rose’s performance against Bournemouth was like Aurier’s play without the goal or assist. He got plenty of chances to cross dangerous balls into the box, but came closer to hitting the moon than finding a Spurs attacker. If he wants to really threaten Ben Davies’ place in the squad, he desperately needs to improve the quality of his play in the attacking third.
