Tottenham player ratings at Stoke: Eriksen bails out sloppy Spurs
Christian Eriksen-9
It’s foolish to criticize any player who scores two goals in a match. Eriksen’s effectiveness went further than just his goal scoring efforts though.
His passing ability was instrumental in Tottenham’s ability to dominate possession. In a match where plenty of his midfield teammates were loose with the ball, Eriksen was as sharp as ever. His goals with get all of the headlines, but his overall game was tremendous.
Dele Alli-8
Some of you might be surprised to see Dele’s high rating since he didn’t score a goal. The simple truth is that Dele does a lot more for Tottenham than just put the ball into the back of the net.
As I mentioned earlier, his assist to Eriksen was inch perfect. The pass itself wasn’t overly difficult, but the poise to wait for his teammate to make his run showed maturity beyond his years. Dele will play better matches, but this was a very quality performance from the precocious Englishman.
Heung-Min Son-5
Son has a nasty habit of either being the best or the worst player on the pitch for Tottenham. He wasn’t quite the worst Spurs player today, but he wasn’t that far off.
The talented Korean gave good effort, but it didn’t translate to any real productivity. His failure to convert his golden scoring chance in the first half could have really cost Tottenham points. It may seem harsh to downgrade his performance based on one miss, but it was really the only time he looked dangerous. There will be better days ahead for Son, but this was a match to forget.
