Jan Vertonghen-7.5

It was another steady performance for Tottenham’s best defender of the season. Vertonghen didn’t do anything spectacular, but he didn’t need to either. He was a perfectly competent defender in a match where nothing more was required.

Some fans might want to see a bit more from the Belgian going forward, but he couldn’t afford to get caught out of position against Xherdan Shaqiri and company. Vertonghen put in a very professional performance for his club.

Davinson Sanchez-6

Simply put, this wasn’t the best day for the 21-year-old Colombian. He didn’t make any massive errors, but he didn’t dominate the inept Stoke attack the way he should have.

Fortunately, his abundance of athleticism continues to allow him to overcome mistakes in positioning. When his mental abilities catch up to his physical gifts he may become the best defender in the Premier League.
