Left back-Ben Davies

What a difference a year makes. 18 months ago Danny Rose would have been an automatic starter in this sort of fixture. Now it’s Ben Davies who is an easy choice for Pochettino.

Davies needs to make sure he maintains his positional integrity today. He can get forward on occasion, but this isn’t a match where he can bomb down the wing with reckless abandon. Davies’ defensive work will be more important than his offensive contributions today.

Right back-Kieran Trippier

This spot is one of Pochettino’s tough decisions. Physically, Serge Aurier is much better equipped to cope with United’s pacy attack. Unfortunately, his propensity for mental errors will nail him to the bench.

That means that Tottenham are forced to trust Kieran Trippier in their biggest match of the season. It’s far from an ideal scenario, but he’ll try to help control possession for Spurs with his ability on the ball. If he gives the ball away it’s going to lead to United scoring opportunities on nearly every occasion.
