The Gunners were disappointed by a late away goal in this huge tie.

It was always going to be a hard task for Arsenal, especially with all the pressure mounted on them to win. However, they were helped within the first ten minutes when Sime Vrsaljko was sent off, soon followed by manager Diego Simeone.

Even after this, Arsenal failed to convert their chances. They were given a large chunk of possession from Atletico Madrid, and they managed to pick out a few openings, but they were denied by Jan Oblak on a few occasions.

It took the Gunners until the second half to open the scoring, and it was courtesy of an Alexandre Lacazette header. A well-timed ball by Jack Wilshere found the head of the Frenchman perfectly, and Jan Oblak was finally beaten.

However, all their earlier mistakes had come back to haunt them. A 1-0 scoreline would have still been frustrating for Arsene Wenger’s side, so you can imagine how they’ll take the 1-1 result.

Antoine Griezmann found himself through on goal, after a poor mistake by Laurent Koscielny. The defending was inexcusable, which seems to be a tale of Arsenal’s season. When you give Griezmann the chance, nine times out of ten he’s going to convert.

Arsenal will need to come up with something special in Madrid if they are to make their way into the final. Without further ado, here are my Arsenal player ratings vs Atletico Madrid.
