Chelsea fans have blamed Jose Mourinho for letting go some players who turned out better later on. Premier League’s Mohamed Salah was one of them. But the current Manchester United manager reveals that the club was responsible for his sale.
Jose Mourinho is known for letting off some of the best talents at Stamford Bridge without providing an opportunity. And they have returned to bite Chelsea over the past few seasons.
Kevin De Buryne and Mohamed Salah weren’t provided the chance to showcase their talent in London. Eventually, they left the Blues and made a name for themselves.
Manchester City’s De Buryne has been in excellent form since his return to the Premier League. He will be lifting the League title this season. On the other hand, Mo Salah has been smashing records and has taken his side on the brink of a Champions League final.
Chelsea fans have heavily criticized their former boss, Jose Mourinho, for letting go of Salah . But in an interview with ESPN Brazil, he reveals that he wasn’t the reason behind his sale in 2016.
He says that it was the opposite. According to the former Chelsea manager, he asked the club to bring in the player from Basel. He revealed that life in London was tough for the Egyptian and took longer for him to adjust.
"“People say that I was the one that sold Salah and it is the opposite.”“It is the opposite. I was the one that bought Salah. I was the one that told Chelsea to buy Salah. It was with me in charge that Salah came to Chelsea.”“But he came as a young kid, physically he was not ready, mentally he was not ready, socially and culturally he was lost and everything was tough for him.” – Jose Mourinho"
In the interview, Jose Mourinho made it clear that Chelsea decided to sell him. The Portuguese boss wanted the player and sent him on loan to Fiorentina and Roma. But the club was responsible for selling him off to Roma in 2016 for €15 million.
"“Chelsea decided to sell him, OK?”“So the decision to send him on loan was a decision we made collectively, but after that, the decision to sell him and to use that money to buy another player wasn’t mine.” – Jose Mourinho"
Finally, everyone has got their answer. Chelsea hierarchy have been making decisions without their managers consultation for sometime now. This needs to stop at Stamford Bridge as the stakeholders must ensure managers have final say on players.
