Jan Vertonghen-8

It was another excellent day at the office for Tottenham’s best centre back. Vertonghen didn’t do anything overly complicated in defence, but he won every challenge that was required from him.

More impressive was the Belgian defender’s willingness to get forward and launch the Tottenham attack. He continues to take more and more responsibility on with the ball at his feet. Several of his passes today looked more like those of an attacking midfielder than a centre back. If only Vertonghen’s second half header had found the back of the net he might’ve earned an even higher rating.

Davinson Sanchez-6

It’s fair to wonder whether or not the Colombian has hit the Premier League wall. His play over the last several weeks hasn’t been up to the standards he set earlier in the year.

It’s not that he was bad against Watford, he just wasn’t particularly good. He let slower players get behind him on several occasions. Against better opposition, that could have cost Tottenham a goal. Sanchez needs to pick his performance up if he’s going to keep Toby Alderweireld on the bench.
