Which player at your club triumphed at the awards for the season’s best? Playing for 90 takes a look at individual Premier League accolades
It has been another thrilling and record-setting Premier League campaign. 2017/18 has given us new heroes along with stunning goals. It is awards season now so let’s take an inside look.
Winning the Player of the Season award at a club looks great on a footballer’s CV. Taking home the Players’ Player of the Season is a recognition of one’s peers; that holds enormous weight amongst professionals.
Some recipients will see it as something nice for the trophy cabinet, or mantle piece – if mansions still have them – or even a gold-star for the prospective transfer horizon.
All over the country clubs have been awarding and rewarding their starlets for consistently fine displays. A few teams are yet to hold the event, we will give the details there. And some relegation candidates have cancelled awards altogether. Here is the lowdown.
Winners
Leicester City’s Harry Maguire won both the Player and Players’ Player of the Season awards. According to LCFC.com, Maguire was “extremely proud and really honoured” to win two awards in his debut season with City.
Pascal Gross lifted Brighton’s trophy. 36% of the fans’ vote handed the German set-piece expert and midfield-magician his title. His 14 goals and assist were invaluable in helping the Gulls avoid relegation.
Jordan Pickford boosted his impressive campaign further by bagging Everton’s award. It seems like his 10 clean sheets guaranteed the Toffees evaded a drop in divisions.
Christopher Schindler was the recipient at Huddersfield. Schindler is at the top of many defensive statistic categories for the Terriers, performing well on all levels. Most of all they will hope he helps them regain their Premiership standing.

David De Gea is now the only Manchester United player to win the Sir Matt Busby award four times. 33 clean sheets in 43 games across all competitions is form of currently the best goalkeeper on the planet.
Marko Arnautovic was able to take home West Ham’s honour. 29-year-old Arnautovic signed for £25m with add-ons, and he seems to be worth it. His 10 finishes in the league in addition to impactful directness has contributed to the Hammers’ survival.
Probable winners
First of all, Arsenal’s winner is likely to be Aaron Ramsey. Some expect the Welshman to be next season’s captain. Their announcement has not been made yet.
Bournemouth are also yet to make public their winner, although it will probably be Nathan Ake. Ake signed for £20m in the summer after a successful loan spell.
I expect Burnley to name Ashley Barnes with Nick Pope coming a close second-place. Their awards night takes place on May 6.
Chelsea’s recipient on May 10 is likely to be Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard signed in 2016 for around £24m.
Crystal Palace will most probably announce Serbian midfielder Luka Milivojevic as their winner on May 9. 10 goals from a variety of positions including stressful penalties give him a great chance.
May 10 will see Liverpool name Mohamed Salah as their season’s best. 43 goals and 15 assists in all competitions is a record-breaking beginning.
Manchester City will likely have Kevin De Bruyne as their stand-out player this season. Champion always have many possible nomination. Yet the Belgian has directly involved with an impressive 23 goals.
Jamaal Lascelles should presumably take home Newcastle’s awards. Captain Lascelles is tipped by many as a defender with a bright future ahead.
On May 13 Spurs will probably name Harry Kane again, although my vote would be either Christian Eriksen or Jan Vertonghen. Eriksen was the receiver last time out.
Watford will most likely name either Richarlison or Abdoulaye Doucouré as their man-of-the-year. The two are the heartbeat of an exiting Hornets side.
This is awkward
Stoke City have cancelled their awards night this year while they fight for their Premiership status. According to The Mirror, it is as a result of heading towards relegation. Consequently, I expect West Brom along with Swansea to do the same. Southampton will perhaps have a ceremony for the player who ends up saving their Premier League lives.
