Thomas Meunier
Moving to right back, Manchester United should look further than PSG’s Thomas Meunier. The Belgian international might be out of favor in Paris, but there is no denying his talent. The 26-year-old is a consistent performer, and every time he has been picked for both club and country, he has proved his quality.
Antonio Valencia was one of United’s best players last season, but hasn’t been good enough this season. Perhaps it’s the pressure of captaincy, or it’s the fact that he is 32.
Meunier would be the perfect long-term replacement for Valencia. With Timothy Fosu Mensah also set to return from his loan move next season, United don’t need to spend too much money on a new right back. And Meunier would be available for a cheap fee, considering he wants to leave Paris St. Germain.
Meunier is solid both in attack and in defense, and he would be an upgrade on Valencia, who has been guilty of defensive errors this season. Signing Meunier will also allow Jose Mourinho to use Valencia as a winger, his natural position.
