Tottenham face one massive question at centre back.

As a former central defender himself, Mauricio Pochettino places high demands on the play of his own centre backs. Sometimes that can lead to tension if he doesn’t perceive a player as being tough enough to thrive in his old position.

Perhaps that’s the issue between he and Toby Alderweireld. At any rate, there are real questions over whether or not the Belgian will be moved this summer. His massive wage demands certainly don’t endear him to Pochettino or Daniel Levy.

In his stead, Davinson Sanchez has emerged as a potential Premier League star. His partnership with Jan Vertonghen hasn’t just kept Spurs afloat this season, it’s allowed them to thrive at times. The young Colombian appears to be a foundational piece of Tottenham’s future.

Vertonghen might be the club’s player of the season. A ton of chatter has centered around his countryman’s absence, but his presence has been massive for the club. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him end up in a lot of people’s Premier League team of the season.

Juan Foyth is the only other senior team centre back who has received any meaningful action this season. Will the young Argentine be content to sit on the bench for another year or will he seek greener pastures with increased playing time?

We will examine the potential prospects at Spurs for all four of these players. Read on to discover the likelihood of each defender plying his trade for Pochettino again next year.
