Tottenham desperately need a win over Newcastle.

It wasn’t so long ago that it looked as if Tottenham would stroll comfortably into Champions League qualification to end this season. Now that the race for fourth has tightened up considerably, Spurs find themselves in desperate need of a win over Newcastle.

Much will be written about this match being a match of wits between Mauricio Pochettino and Rafa Benitez. Yes, both men are brilliant managers, but their tactical prowess won’t define this fixture.

Instead, expect the final spoils to go to the team that plays with the most energy and effort. Spurs fans will certainly expect that be their side’s advantage. Tottenham need the win to stay ahead of Chelsea while Newcastle enter the match without a ton to play for.

Of course Tottenham fans know what can happen to Spurs when Newcastle have the opportunity to play spoiler against them. It was just a few short seasons ago where Spurs were hammered by the relegated Magpies on the closing day of the campaign.
