3. The Lucas effect

Lucas Moura hasn’t gotten a ton of Premier League playing time this season since his winter arrival from PSG. Look for him to get a rare start against Newcastle.

If he does, his pace and willingness to run at defenders will prove infectious for Tottenham. It’s the very thing they frequently miss when their attack becomes bogged down in the middle of the pitch. Lucas should give his teammates the freedom to express themselves.

Taking that pressure off the Spurs attack might be the best thing Lucas does in the entire match. Anything tangible he provides with his own game should be considered a bonus.

The mere threat of Lucas out on the pitch will force Newcastle’s defense to mark him at all times. Don’t be surprised to see more room in the middle of the pitch for Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen as a result.
