1. Spurs have more at stake

We mentioned in the open that Tottenham need these three points to continue their match towards Champions League qualification. That gives them a real mental edge heading into this fixture. As long as the squad doesn’t let it overwhelm them it should be a tremendous advantage.

Things might be different if Newcastle had anything other than pride riding on this match. Benitez will have a difficult time motivating his troops to play a disciplined game. If the Magpies get out of shape, Tottenham will punish them.

Expect the atmosphere at Wembley to be intense. Tottenham’s fan base understands just how much is at stake for the club. A win will keep their Champions League destiny in their own hands. A loss could see Spurs relegated to the Europa League. That, of course, could cost Spurs supporters several of their favourite players.

The odds favour Tottenham putting in a spirited performance to help ease the minds of everyone around the club. In this late season fixtures, having something to play for is frequently a deciding factor. That will work in Spurs’ favour today.
