Mesut Ozil signed a new contract

A huge part of the problem at Arsenal this season was caused by uncertainty. The ongoing saga of whether Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil would re-sign for the club dragged on for months. The situation was further exacerbated by the fact that it was the club’s own fault.

It’s still hard to explain how the top brass at Arsenal did not address the issue of star players with expiring contracts earlier. In fact, they still need to work on contracts for Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

Sanchez refused to sign and moved on. The Ozil saga finally reached its conclusion in February when it was announced that the German agreed to new terms that will keep him at the club through 2021.
