It was a disappointing season for Manchester United as they saw local rivals City cruise to Premier League glory.
United also had to deal with disappointing exits in the UEFA Champions League and the League Cup. While the Red Devils made it to the FA Cup final, they were beaten by Chelsea at Wembley. Manchester United did manage to get second place in the league table. But in no ways can their season be labelled a success.
Defeats away to all three promoted sides, as well as dropped points against lesser teams showed that the lack of consistency is a real problem for United. The over dependence on Romelu Lukaku as well as the disappointing form of Martial and Rashford will also need to be addressed in the summer.
United did improve in certain aspects from last season, but it’s hard to take too many positives from a season that failed to bring the club any silverware. Manchester United now face a pivotal summer ahead if they are to challenge City for the Premier League title next season. There could also be a huge turnover of players, with the likes of Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw facing uncertain futures.
