Liverpool fell short at the hands of Real Madrid, but how did the individuals fare?

Liverpool are no strangers to a Champions League final, as the competition has served them well over the years. However, this year wasn’t the case, despite a sensational run towards the final.

The Reds did exceptionally well in the buildup to the final, often winning games by huge scorelines. Jurgen Klopp did all he could do to prepare his side for the final. That said, taking tips from Klopp for a cup final probably isn’t the best idea in the world.

Liverpool went into the game with huge belief, and the fans backed them all the way. Perhaps it was all one huge dream, which came stumbling down at the final hurdle.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Los Blancos, being helped by poor decision making from goalkeeper Loris Karius. The ball poked off Benzema’s foot via a smart deflection and stumbled through to the corner of the open goal.

However, not long later, Sadio Mane got on the end of a flick-on to level the scoring. This certainly fired the crowd up again, but it simply wasn’t to be, because on came Gareth Bale.

Within two minutes of his arrival, the Welshman stunned the crowd with an excellent acrobatic volley. It will go down as one of the all-time great Champions League goals, although his next goal told a different story.

It was more of a pop-shot from distance, and one which had more chance of being saved than going in. Karius got a touch to it, but the touch only found his own net.

Without further ado, how did the Liverpool players fare?
