Real Madrid 3-1 Liverpool: Three things we learned in Champions League final
By Kian Long
1. Never doubt Zinedine Zidane
Cometh the hour, cometh Zidane. Where there’s a Zin, there’s a way.
Those are just two idioms which were established last night, if they weren’t already. It should be a rule in football, particularly on the European stage, to never doubt Zinedine Zidane.
There were many doubters heading into this match, following Real Madrid’s poor La Liga run. They found themselves in third place of the Spanish league, which is unlike them. However, Liverpool faced a similar feat in the Premier League, which was also dominated by one side.
If there’s any manager you want for the big Champions League occasion, though, it’s Zinedine Zidane. He got it spot on last night, even the decision to use Gareth Bale as an impact substitute (he is claiming that, right?)
The Frenchman has played in World Cup finals (if you know, you know), Champions League finals and other huge games during his playing time. He used his knowledge of the big stage well, and installed belief into each Real Madrid player, if it wasn’t there already.
