Raphael Varane: 8/10

Mature display from the center half, kept Liverpool out on all but one occasion. Solitary lapse of concentration led to the Reds’ only goal, however it ultimately mattered little. Epitomized Real Madrid at the back – headed everything clear and made some crucial blocks and tackles. Would have been a different story without the Frenchman on the pitch.

Sergio Ramos: 8/10

Captain and leader. Deserved to lift the trophy at full time, for yet another warrior-like display as part of a stalwart Madrid rearguard. His hefty challenge led to Mohamed Salah’s injury which means it is difficult to warm to Ramos on this occasion, but a magnificent exhibition ensured Liverpool had few opportunities.
