Casemiro: 6.5/10

Probably the least notable of Real Madrid’s midfield trio. Shielded the back four well, never really unleashed his attacking qualities and didn’t come close to scoring the goal he managed in last season’s final. Allowed Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to command the center of the park, which they did impressively.

Toni Kroos: 7.5/10

All but one (50 out of 51) of Toni Kroos’ first half passes reached their target. His outstanding pass accuracy meant the German was very rarely overrun in midfield. Caught out not tracking back once or twice in the opening 45 minutes, but looked every bit as composed as Real Madrid needed him to be to provide from the heart of the pitch.

Luka Modric: 7.5/10

Pretty much a carbon copy of Kroos. Especially smart at the end to help Real Madrid see out the game, and controlled the midfield. Jordan Henderson and James Milner seldom strung together a sustained period of passing, and that was testament to Modric who was another of Los Blancos’ star performers on a night there were many.

Isco: 5.5/10

Not vintage from Isco, and he made way for Gareth Bale to burst onto the scene in awe-inspiring style. A couple of sumptuous crosses and cross-field balls served as glimmers of his best. Fortunately many of Real Madrid’s beacons stepped up, and a half-decent shift from the Spaniard was helpful rather than spectacular.
