24 hours after being crowned champion of Europe for the 5th time, Cristiano Ronaldo told the Madridistas that he would be seeing them again next year.

Initial reports indicated that the 33-year-old Portuguese talisman Cristiano Ronaldo would do some thinking about his future in the next week or so and would provide concrete answers when he joined the national team for World Cup preparation.

It seems however, that he has made up his mind rather quickly and Madridistas can now rest easy as their quintessential No. 7 will be back next season.

The news was surprising in the fact that it surfaced so early, but was it really any surprise to anyone in the footballing world? No. Any rational fan would see the situation for what it is.

Ronaldo is thriving in Madrid and is undeniably at the top of the footballing world with his fellow La Liga cohort Lionel Messi, so why in the world would he want to leave?

Maybe he could’ve wanted the simple life you say, maybe he is ready to slow it down, broaden his horizons to new leagues, or visit old stomping grounds in Old Trafford. Let’s be serious. We know Ronaldo and we know he is here to compete and show the world he is the best, and the best way for him to do that is to keep dominating in the Spanish capital.

Ronaldo is chasing more than just trophies now, he has won everything there is to win at the club level; now he’s chasing immortality. To be the face of a generation of football alongside Messi; a footballing god.

And what better place to do that than in the most historic club in football alongside a supporting cast more than willing to help him on his quest?

It would take a real bit of propaganda to pull Ronaldo away from a coach in Zidane who has guided them to 3 straight Champions League successes, from attacking partners in Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema who have accepted their subservient roles, from an entire midfield and defense committed to the success of the team and the brand that is Cristiano Ronaldo.

So yes, Ronaldo will opt to stay in the sun-kissed Spanish capital for just a little bit longer and don the famous all white Real Madrid kit for the foreseeable future. The real test that his mind will be focusing on is the World Cup, the pièce de résistance to the legend of CR7.
