Two Bundesliga clubs have retracted their interest in a Bremen midfielder after learning his new price

Werder Bremen struggled this season in the Bundesliga. They drew far too many matches and could not string a good enough run together to make any headway in the table. One bright spot the team did have was in midfielder Thomas Delaney.

Delaney logged the third most minutes on the team, the second most assists, and tied for the third most goals. Needless to say, he was vital to their entire system. The great success he had attracted the interest of bigger clubs in the league.

The two main suitors, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke, were keen on adding Delaney to their squad for next season. Meinwerder.de, a Werder Bremen news site, unfortunately reported some bad news for the two clubs.

The problem is that Werder Bremen came out and said that they would not consider offers under £25 million for Delaney. This made both Dortmund and Schalke pull out of the race for the player. This is baffling in today’s era, with players being sold for triple that price with no questions asked.

More from Bundesliga

The importance of Delaney, being just 26 years old, and the skill he can bring to a team all make him a hot prospect. This justifies the board holding out for a minimum of £25 million.

The role Delaney plays in the team cannot be taken lightly. If he is to leave, the club needs to know they have the funds to replace him.

Dortmund could really use a destroyer like Delaney to sit in front of their back line. This would allow more offensive freedom for Gotze and Kagawa moving forward. Schalke should also reconsider Delaney, as they will be in the Champions League next season. At the very least, Delaney could add depth to an already strong midfield.

If the two clubs do decide to stay away, then the Premier League offers will undoubtably be on the way. £25 million for one of the most wanted positions in the modern would be chump change to a team in England.

Arsenal have been looking for a holding midfielder for years and Tottenham could always use a partner for Wanyama. Regardless of his destination, Delaney will not be on the market for much longer this summer.
