Meet the England squad: with credit to Sky Sports’ team special. An  unprecedented encounter with the Three Lions during World Cup preparation and seclusion

This is a review of an unprecedented television sports package. An intriguing insight into a World Cup training complex. Not just an operating facility of any team: England. Live from St. George’s Park where developing took place of under-17 and under-20 champions.

At what is usually a serene and press-free scenario, we hear from members of the Three Lions. Preparations for Thursday’s friendly clash with Costa Rica are underway. And more importantly, Russia 2018 is a week away.

Introduced as the squad who carry the nations hopes; Sky clearly did not receive the memo adhering to a no-pressure build up. However, the 23-man team seem stress-free, while speaking to the media. An unparalleled occasion but did it work-out?

A first revelation came as Sky veteran Martin Tyler discussed former players transitioning to a media career. Tyler spoke of the need for ex-pros to remain in coaching, as many are now pundits, commentators and presenters. Although this event is slightly conflicting to his theory.

The most enlightening player conversations

Harry Kane: Captain of England Kane said he is interested and happy to try something new. Media are a big part of the World Cup, ‘we’ should keep it together. He is calm about press interaction. It is good for new members to have the media speak to them.

On Russia:

"“We haven’t won anything for 50 years!”"

He can’t wait to get out there after the last friendly. In regard to his incorrect weight: being 15 and-a-half stone on the website, quickly rebuffed:

"“I am definitely not that weight!”"

He feels 100% fit. England HAVE practiced penalties. Kane would go first in a shootout. Saying hopefully he will lead by example and be a winning captain. To do what he does best is most important.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: An ecstatic Alexander-Arnold told Sky it was daunting. An unbelievable experience at the deep-end which will help his evolution. Was on holiday in Mexico with his family this time last summer. He is grateful to Liverpool staff.

England’s 17-year-old defender spoke by phone to Jurgen Klopp who informed him he was called-up to the squad. Confirmed he smiled throughout day.

Was tough but has taken positives from Liverpool‘s Champions League loss. Also speaking on how people got it wrong last season about his club. Their heads are held high.
