Left wing back: Danny Rose – 7/10

Was always going to be a difficult match, emotionally, for Danny Rose after being in the media. The Tottenham man admitted he had depression, so it was going to be a tough encounter.

Played well enough, though, and was England’s most optimistic defender. Tried a few cross-field balls that didn’t come off, but intent was there.

A positive part of the wing back system, and should be in the eleven on June 18.

Right wing back: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6/10

Big occasion for Trent Alexander-Arnold under the unfamiliar lights of Elland Road.

Not his best display, however looked eager to get forward and start attacks, as at Liverpool. Made one or two sloppy mistakes but Costa Rica didn’t have the firepower to capitalise.
