Tottenham Hotspur have already completed potentially their best pieces of business this year. Highly rated manager Mauricio Pochettino has extended his contract, now accompanied by Harry Kane.
Completing Harry Kane’s new deal will be a huge relief to Spurs support, staff, players and the owners. A huge boost towards a significant season; of which silverware is keenly expected by the all the above.
While the 24-year-old’s focus is on the upcoming World Cup, he had another imposingly splendid campaign. Narrowly missing out a third successive Premier League golden-boot echoes Kane’s worth. Talking of amounts; it is a staggering cost to keep a player of that calibre these days.
Sky Sports News claim his fresh six-year agreement is worth an estimated £15m yearly. That makes the new contract worth an astronomical £90m. I’m sure you did the maths there as well but I needed to see it on paper for the amount to register.
Because he’s worth it
Spurs were obviously willing to seal-the-deal almost at any cost. And one cannot blame them: 105 Premier League goals in four years, is world-class.
Besides, a player of his stature will recoup clubs’ outgoing bill massively in profile, merchandise and shirt sales. With clubs like Real Madrid circling, it is best to act swiftly.
Although, this expenditure is in addition to the monumental cost of new stadium and facilities at White Hart Lane. An approximate £1bn or more project. Recently, reports suggest the new ground on schedule.
Subsequent to the consistent form of Kane, Gareth Southgate bestowed a great honour to the Londoner. He is England’s World Cup captain. Jordan Henderson was the only suitable alternative in a young side. However, popular choice is the Spurs striker.
Henderson himself endorsed his international teammate before Russia 2018, saying:
"“I was really pleased for Harry”– Jordan Henderson (via Independant)"
The covertly novel Twitter announcement video was disguised as a stadium update. See above to for major progress by the North London club.
Of his new deal, a humble Kane told his followers:
"“Obviously just signed a new contract. Delighted for that. Can’t wait to see all you fans in the stadium next season, cheers.”– Harry Kane (Via: @SpursOfficial Twitter)"
Expect Tottenham to challenge next season. Not realistically for the premiership title for a season or two. Yet a trophy or two are within their means, an FA Cup win possibly. Even European honours are not unrealistic, after displaying impressive form against giants like Real Madrid in 2017/18.
