Liverpool missed out on the chance to sign Nabil Fekir, but it’s not all bad news.
Nabil Fekir seemed imminent to sign for Liverpool, but the deal fell through. Lyon released an official statement claiming the Frenchman will not join Liverpool, and they are delighted to have him stay at the club.
This caused a lot of backlash towards Liverpool, as it isn’t the only seemingly-completed transfer to have fallen through in recent seasons.
Fekir divided opinion. While many stated he would have positive impacts, there was also a bundle of negative effects which would have come from signing the Frenchman.
Nevertheless, the Merseyside club needn’t worry for much longer. Their long-time transfer target in Mario Gotze has refused to turn down a move to Liverpool, according to the Independent.
Of course, he isn’t as good as Fekir, but he’s still a worthy option for Liverpool. He’s shown in the past how great he can be, but he just needs to add consistency to his game.
Having worked with him in the past, Klopp can install a sense of belief into the German, whose career looks to be declining slowly.
He had the chance to join Klopp once again at Liverpool, but opted to move back to Borussia Dortmund.
"“I decided to leave Bayern and Jurgen Klopp was interested in getting me to Liverpool. And I was also interested in working with him again. It’s still existing. He is a world-class coach and that’s why it’s always an option.” – Mario Gotze"
His name was written in worldwide lights as he scored the World Cup winning goal in Brazil against a resilient Argentina defense. He never lived up to the hype, but he will always use this as a sense of belief.

Liverpool could have done with a moment like this in the Champions League final. They certainly need to sign players who are comfortable on the big stage.
The Reds have the quality to challenge the big dogs, but they need to improve drastically. A club of their size can’t rest on a silverware-free season, finishing fourth in the Premier League. It’s not good enough by their standards.
This is why all the transfer news is positive. They have already secured the signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita for next season, both of which are solid additions.
Klopp can get the best out of Gotze, but the player needs to give his manager a similar level of determination in order to reignite his career.
