Liverpool’s interest in Alisson looks to have taken an unexpected fall.
Liverpool’s frailties were exposed to the world when they took on Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final.
Goalkeeper of the night Loris Karius had one of the worst UCL finals performances we’ve ever seen, giving away two goals which should have never been scored.
While the Liverpool faithful make their love for players very vocal, they also aren’t ones to go silent in the face of mediocrity. This performance definitely personified mediocrity from the goalkeeper’s point of view.
That said, it came as no surprise to see their interest in Roma’s Alisson heat up. The 25-year-old will represent Brazil at this year’s World Cup along with Ederson.
He is probably the favorable option out of the two, which says a lot given the high praise on Ederson this season.
However, Liverpool were always going to face competition. They couldn’t have found heavier competition than Real Madrid, which is Alisson’s most likely destination.
Los Blancos are willing to pay the asking price, something which Liverpool aren’t prepared to do. Roma value their star man at £80m, which is understandable given his class.

The news has arisen from Sky Sports News, who report Real Madrid are still hindering over the choice of Alisson or Thibaut Courtois.
This isn’t good news for Alisson, considering his country get underway with Switzerland on Sunday. He will want his future decided before then, so he can focus on bringing glory back to Brazil.
Liverpool could have done with Alisson on the Champions League final night. The two mistakes given away by Karius could have easily been prevented.
Alisson is excellent at playing out from the back, and he has excellent spatial awareness matched by a broad skill-set range. This would have prevented the high-pressing situation regarding Karim Benzema, and in turn, Liverpool wouldn’t have lost their heads.
We can’t stumble on what could have been, though. It’s important Liverpool take a learning curve, and that’s what they seem to be doing.
It will be harsh on Karius should he be replaced, but for a club wanting to battle at the top level, Liverpool can’t rest on morals. They need to be ruthless, which is what they’ve done so far this window.
They have already secured the signings of Naby Keita and Fabinho, which are promising signs for the club heading forward.
If they can pull through these rumors and secure Alisson, or any other goalkeeper for that matter, the Reds should be close to returning to their challenging days.
