Liverpool will step up their efforts to sign star after World Cup
By Kian Long
Liverpool are having a busy transfer window, and they aren’t resting on two signings.
Having already secured Naby Keita and Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool board are looking to continue their re-shuffle ahead of next season.
The Merseyside club has what it takes to challenge the big dogs in the Premier League, but they still have frailties which need fixing.
Their frailties are mainly situated around their defense, which is why it’s a surprise to see them linked with Xherdan Shaqiri and Nabil Fekir recently.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool will step up their pursuit of Xherdan Shaqiri once the World Cup has drawn to a close. They claim he isn’t seen as an alternative to Fekir, simply a squad improvement.
This would suggest the Reds are still keen on Fekir, who Lyon claimed will not be leaving the club this summer.
Shaqiri is reportedly open to an Anfield move, and he certainly seems like a Klopp-type player. His powerhouse structure, matched with his bursts of pace make him essential to the Gegenpress style of play.

Klopp adopts a high press, which utilizes his front three in the best possible way. The midfielders are also renowned for getting forward and piling the pressure of opposing defenders.
Shaqiri is used to doing this by himself essentially with Stoke City.
Liverpool remain in the fray for Roma’s Alisson, but this deal is looking less and less likely as the days pass by.
It would be a statement to go from Fekir to Shaqiri, but the fans must have faith in Klopp. This isn’t the first time he’s signed a below average name, with Andrew Robertson excelling at Anfield since his move from Hull City.
The winger has had a career of ups and downs. He never quite made it at Bayern Munich, nor did he at Inter Milan. However, experience at the big clubs could help him at Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp is one of the best in the business in bringing out the best of players. He has saved careers like Mohamed Salah and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain recently, and he’ll hope to do the same with Xherdan Shaqiri.
The Swiss international was signaled as one to watch for Switzerland this summer, and with the reported interest, he will have many more eyes on him.
He has what it takes, but he must respect Klopp enough to take it out of him.
