Highlighting the best World Cup matches of Round 1
By Zack Nelson
Monday 18th June – England vs Tunisia
There isn’t much to watch on the Tunisian side, but it will be crucial that England get off to a good start. Coming off of their worst World Cup result in their country’s history, England come back with a squad full of exciting young talent.
Lack of experience is a concern, with Harry Kane, Dele Ali, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford, and Eric Dier all under the age of 25, but they open the tournament with two very winnable games.
This match should be pretty one-sided, but it’ll also be telling as to whether or not England are equipped for a deep run.
Prediction: England 2-0 Tunisia
Honorable mention – Belgium vs Panama
The reasoning for this one is almost exactly the same as the game above. Belgium have talent, but haven’t put it together yet.
This match against Panama should give us a good idea on where they are as a team and if they’re equipped enough for a deep run. Will Belgium dominate, or will they let Panama hang around?
Prediction: Belgium 4-1 Panama
