Julen Lopetegui will succeed Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid next season.

Real Madrid may have lifted their third successive Champions League at the back-end of this season, but they aren’t resting in re-shuffling their squad.

Los Blancos will be set for a new season under new boss Julen Lopetegui, the former manager of Spain. It was recently announced that he lost his job as manager of La Furia Roja, but he won’t let that dampen his spirits.

It means he can focus on the task at hand next season, although it will always be a blow to him. He will look to continue Zidane’s fine legacy at the Bernabeu, but it will be a tough ask to emulate the Frenchman’s success.

He will need to get his new players on board, which is the subject of recent news. According to Daily Mail, they could be in for, you guessed it, David de Gea.

Lopetegui has a good relationship with de Gea, perhaps even more so than the goalkeeper’s current manager Jose Mourinho.

Several times in the past have Real Madrid come close to securing the deal, but it’s fell through on all occasions.

What does this mean for Keylor Navas?

Keylor Navas has had a mixed-ride during his time at Real Madrid, but if de Gea is to come in, one would imagine he will look for a move away.

He is far too good to be a bench player, and with several Premier League clubs looking to strengthen in the goalkeeping position, he could move to the world’s most exciting league.

Perhaps even Manchester United will want him as part of the deal, as they’ve shown interest in the past. Other suitors could be Arsenal or Liverpool.

Good or bad for Real Madrid?

David de Gea is an exceptional goalkeeper, and there’s a reason he is deemed as the best in the world. The shot-stopper has saved United many points in his time at Old Trafford, hoping to do the same at the Bernabeu should the move come through.

The fans will have his back, as they’ve been calling for the deal to happen since a few seasons ago. It was a screwed fax machine which postponed his move.

He has claimed many times he is happy at United, as he’s consistently been voted for individual awards by the Old Trafford faithful.

The Red Devils will need to work hard in order to keep him, because we all know what can happen when Madrid step up their interest. Especially with Lopetegui holding the key, de Gea could be more persuaded.
