Petr Cech recently claimed the number 1 at Arsenal, but that doesn’t mean he will start each game.
Arsenal have had a very underrated transfer window, in my opinion. Having already secured the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner, the deal for Sokratis Papastathopoulos looks all but confirmed, and Lucas Torreira is moving closer also.
That’s a midfielder, a full back and a center back. All of these are positions which needed strengthening, but there’s one more.
One of Arsenal’s main fatal flaws last season was the goalkeeping errors they endured. Whether it be Petr Cech or David Ospina, the two simply weren’t strong enough when called upon.
Petr Cech is ageing, and it’s vital Arsenal begin to prepare for life without him, as he isn’t going to be around for much longer.
According to Sky Sports, they seem to be doing just that. The Gunners are in ‘advanced talks’ with German goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
The Bayer Leverkusen man is a whole decade younger than Cech. He could certainly learn a thing or two from the former Chelsea veteran, though.
He is dubbed as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga. Arsenal’s head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat, will know all about him from his time in the German league.
Unai Emery isn’t bad, is he?

Signing a goalkeeper would be a real sign of intent from Arsenal. Under new boss Unai Emery, it’s vital they strengthen in frail positions, which is what they appear to be doing.
In order to keep up with Premier League rivals, it’s important to cover any holes the team may have. Arsene Wenger became too complacent and failed to do this in his final years with the club.
Emery is a man of heavy research, and having spent many hours analyzing the squad available to him, he will look to make the perfect squad.
For this, transfers need to take place. We all know how stingy the Arsenal board can be when it comes to financial backing, but the Spaniard has done well in working with what he’s got.
If all the signings come through, which it looks like they will, then the window can be considered successful from Emery’s point of view. He had a clear plan, and he executed it perfectly.

It may take a while for the Gunners to return to their glory days, but if this window is anything to go by, then Emery is guiding them in the right direction.
