Being born in Brazil, he chose to represent Spain on international duty. Both sides got draws against strong teams, but there is less pressure when taking the striker role at Spain.
Also, he suits the Spanish philosophy a lot more. Although a number of the players are technically gifted, the Spanish futbol fans love to see their side showing grit. Costa has this in abundance.
His goals showed just that. He tugged off a number of opposing defenders and coolly slotted home, using his strength to his advantage.
This sums Costa up perfectly. He loves to anger his opposing defenders and get the better of them in such a state.
Joining Atletico Madrid once more, the Spanish fans were reunited with him. Putting rivalries aside, the fan-base will hope he can continue coming up with the goods throughout the tournament.
