RB. Kieran Trippier – England
I told you it was Trippier’s time to shine.
Okay, I’ll be real with you and say Trippier wasn’t exactly world class against Tunisia. But let’s face it, the options for right backs were limited.
Trippier did play well though, don’t let that disclaimer fool you. He created a number of chances for his England teammates, although they weren’t made the most of.
Play ran through England’s right-hand side, and they reaped all the benefits. Creativity is a huge part to Southgate’s philosophy, but Trippier is the only player who can provide it.
He has a pinpoint ball, one which he chooses to unleash at any given opportunity. His set-piece routines were a little off, but that’s the only downside to his performance.
It was a terrific display on his World Cup debut, and he can head into matchweek 2 with plenty of confidence, as England take on Panama.
